In the new year, a new life, and a new outlook. Recently, it’s statistically well-documented that trying different actions from your usual patterns can contribute to what is commonly referred to as ‘good luck’.

This includes visiting places you’ve never been to before, or trying out a different menu than your usual choices. In a town like Kamakura, where the whole city feels like a power spot, there is always hope to discover new experiences.

So, let’s start with this fantastic Pick Up List of great establishments, beginning with ‘A.’

A

ANTICO RONDINO

Kamakura, Hase

A place specializing in Panino and Prosciutto. Highly recommended are the Salame with Gorgonzola and Porchetta with roasted pork. You can also enjoy a platter of Prosciutto (starting from 2000 yen) and wine inside the restaurant.

A hearty panino for 900 yen. Quite surprising!

Latteria BeBe KAMAKURA

Kamakura,onaricho

This restaurant specializes in cheese dishes made in the attached cheese factory. It’s extremely popular, and there’s always a line no matter what time you go. You can also purchase freshly made cheese. Lunch starts at 1,800 yen.

Rich burrata for 1,280 yen. Ricotta and mozzarella starting from 590 yen.

Chojuzen-ji Temple

Kita-Kamakura, Yamanouchi

The seasonally open grounds are beautifully maintained, with a refined garden displaying autumn leaves and buildings that have gained a significant fan base. Immerse yourself in your own world and savor a moment of tranquil silence where you can even hear the sound of leaves falling.

DAILY BY LONG TRACK FOODS 

Kamakura Komachi

This stylish shop in Kamakura, situated within the Kamakura shopping district, is most likely the reigning champion of refined kitchenware and carefully crafted delicacies, including specialty foods. It’s a go-to destination for sophisticated women in Kamakura.

Engaku-ji Temple

Kita-Kamakura, Yamanouchi

Located conveniently near Kita-Kamakura Station, this temple boasts spacious grounds that can be visited at your own pace throughout the year. Regular sutra copying and meditation sessions are held, and there are many points of interest. It’s easily accessible and makes for a great stop on your Kamakura sightseeing journey.


The “Sanmon” gate, which symbolizes the removal of earthly desires on the path to the temple hall. Please proceed through this gate.

Fukuya

Kamakura, Omachi

A restaurant where you can savor exquisite Yamagata soba, Japanese sake, and delicious sake accompaniments. The restaurant’s stylish and modern atmosphere is delightful, making it a pride and joy of Kamakura residents, and you’re sure to leave completely satisfied.

Giraffa

Kamakura Komachi

A curry bread specialty shop on Komachi Street that often has long lines. The curry bread, devoured with enthusiasm by not only Japanese but also tourists from abroad, has gooey cheese inside and is priced at 350 yen per piece. It’s perfect if you want to enjoy it piping hot.


The exterior is crispy, while the inside is a sea of cheese and curry.

Hokokuji Temple, Kyuukouan

Kamakura Jomyoji Temple

Houkokuji Temple is a place of stunning beauty with a lush grove of vibrant blue bamboo, creating a world of cool serenity. Locals visit time and time again to enjoy matcha tea at Kyukouan, a charming tea house with a view of the blue bamboo garden.


Purchase your matcha tea ticket at the entrance, and aim for a less crowded time slot.

Ichijo Ekan Sanso

Kamakura Jomyoji Temple


Once the mountain retreat of Emperor Go-Yozei’s son, Prince Ichijo Ekan, this location is a nationally designated important cultural property. The rural-style building is a tea house designed by Prince Ekan himself, exuding an elegant, rustic charm with a high sense of refinement. The fixtures and ceilings that still exhibit a high degree of sophistication today are a must-see.

Jomyoji Kisenan

Kamakura Jomyoji Temple

Kisui-an, located within Jomyoji Temple, is one of the most open and airy tea houses in Kamakura. It’s a place where people of all ages can relax. Whether you want to enjoy quiet conversation or immerse yourself in the Zen garden, it’s an excellent choice. The temple’s on-site restaurant is also highly recommended.

The Ema Stone of Kamakura-guu Shrine

Kamakura Nikaido

Kamakura Shrine is known for its local festivals, antiques market, and is cherished by many locals. A unique tradition at this shrine is “Yakubarai”. You blow your breath onto a small plate to transfer your misfortunes onto it, and then throw it at a designated “Yakubarai” stone to shatter the misfortunes.  “Yakubarai” is known for its reputed effectiveness.

Paying 200 yen and breaking a small plate can be quite satisfying.

Lino Drops KAMAKURA

Kamakura Komachi

A store that crafts accessories from pink, delicately processed “sakuragai” (cherry blossom shells), each about the size of a pinky nail. Their designs emphasize the delicate beauty of these shells and include earrings and bracelets, which are not only charming but also loved for their timeless and natural appeal that suits all ages.

The most popular earrings start at around 3,000 yen.

Matsubara-an

Kamakura Yuigahama

Delicious soba, hotel-like service, and an attached café terrace. With English menus available, it’s also popular among travelers from abroad. Taking your friends who are visiting there will surely leave them delighted.

Ishikawa Meat Kamakura Branch

Kamakura Onari-chou

In addition to delicious meats, the store offers a wide variety of side dishes, and it’s easy to end up buying more than you initially intended to. Recommended items include menchikatsu and black pork for shabu-shabu, but everything you choose is delicious.
