A true Kamakura classic, “Hato Sabure” (Pigeon Shortbread). It’s always delicious, with a satisfying volume and a great design. The packaging, along with every detail, has a high level of refinement, making it a proud Kamakura confection.

The 6-piece pack is the perfect amount for New Year’s gifts. The story of the rickshaw printed on the back of the package also conveys the deep love for Kamakura that the company holds as a local representative.

They have a shelf life of about one week, making them perfect if you have plans to meet someone soon.

La Maree de Chaya, with its main store in Hayama and a strong presence across Kanagawa, offers a variety of new sweets.

Perfect for gifts, they offer a selection of baked goods with a good shelf life, as well as many types of fresh sweets (cakes). Every year during this season, I rely on them. This year’s new tea-scented, moist cake has a strong, aromatic tea fragrance and comes in a beautifully designed, high-end package.

Measuring around 12-13 cm in a square shape, it’s small enough to not be cumbersome, which is a pleasant touch.

I’ve rated these items based on my personal preference, but all of them are highly recommended. When it comes to seasonal gifts or New Year presents, often it’s the thoughtful, subtle items that are more appreciated than expensive ones.
