One of the joys of Kamakura is ‘gourmet walking’. In recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in the opening of trendy sweets shops near the west exit of Kamakura Station and Onari Street, and it seems like this trend will continue in the future. There are also many stylish boutiques, delicious bakeries, and restaurants tucked away in side streets. If you want to avoid the crowds and enjoy a variety of delicious food, how about taking a leisurely stroll along Onari Street?

Coquelicot Onari Street

Coquelicot exudes an air of venerable tradition. For some, a visit to Kamakura is incomplete without indulging in the crepes here. However, the Coquelicot shop on bustling Komachi Street can have long lines for ordering, and since they cook the crepes after you place your order, the wait can be quite considerable.

In contrast, the shop on Onari Street is relatively less crowded, and it seems the crepe makers there are not rushed, which enhances the deliciousness of their crepes.

I watched as an elderly gentleman ordered ‘Lemon sugar, please’ and took his freshly made crepe to go. Observing such an interaction, I realized that this place has been cherished in the past and will continue to be in the future.

It was a weekend afternoon with a light drizzle. There were two groups waiting.
The interior is chewy, while the surface is crispy.
Fresh cream lemon sugar for 500 yen. It’s filled generously with rich cream, and it’s very satisfying.
Chocolate banana, cinnamon apple, Gouda cheese… all of them are delicious!

maison de lulu

A sweets shop specializing in petite gateaux, which are bite-sized cakes. In addition to baked goods, they also offer cream puffs and cakes. The prices are reasonable, so it’s easy to get carried away and choose several. With a wide variety of beautifully arranged baked goods, making selections is a truly delightful experience.

Even if you originally bought them as souvenirs, it’s hard to resist the freshly baked canelés, so indulging in a bite while walking is also fun. The petite gateaux are reasonably priced, starting from just 100 yen each, and they taste delicious! They make great gifts or treats for yourself.

For those accustomed to tourist destination prices, the displayed prices are a pleasant sight.
Tickled by the maiden’s heart by these small sweets.
Canelé and small cream puffs are popular. They also have mini cakes and custards.
They also offer boxed baked goods, perfect for souvenirs.

MontBlancStand

A highly reputable shop located along the gentle slope that extends from Wakamiya Oji to the Kamakura City Agricultural Cooperative’s direct sales outlet, right next to Lawson. They are famous for their ‘Freshly Squeezed Mont Blanc,’ which varies with the seasons, and they even offer a black bean Mont Blanc at times.

In addition, you can also enjoy their ‘Meringue Chantilly’, in which colorful and differently flavored meringues are paired with fresh cream and toppings. They provide a service that allows you to capture photos and videos of the Mont Blanc being squeezed out, which is quite popular among Instagram users.

They encourage you to enjoy the Mont Blanc while it’s at its best right after being squeezed out, and the style of indulging in it right there adds an element of excitement and fun to the experience.

On the left, we have the ‘Freshly Squeezed Chestnut Mont Blanc’ for 600 yen. On the right, the ‘Meringue Chantilly’ for 400 yen, which is a dessert featuring meringue topped with fresh cream.

DAILY by LONG TRACK FOODS

Located along Wakamiya Oji is the ‘Kamakura City Agricultural Cooperative Direct Sales Outlet’. This is a farmer’s market where nearby farms, including those from Kamakura City, sell their produce. Within the premises, you can find charming businesses that are quintessentially Kamakura, such as a bakery, a yakitori shop, and an aroma and herb shop. Many locals and visitors from other prefectures are fans of these establishments.

Among them, ‘Oshare Banchou’ and ‘Long Track Foods’ stand out as stores that offer a delightful selection of kitchen-related goods, groceries, and more. In particular, their cookie sandwich ice cream has received the seal of approval from local residents. No words are needed; you simply bite into this generously-sized ice cream.

Vanilla for 432 yen. They also have other flavors available.
The small shop is filled with such stylish items that you’d want to buy everything. Their deli foods also come in adorable packaging and taste delicious.
