Three Places for Afternoon Tea and Desserts in Kamakura

Three Places for Afternoon Tea and Desserts in Kamakura

July 2022 Seasonal up date : 2

Ishigama Garden Terrace / Le Milieu Kamakurayama / RegaLez -vous

I’m introducing two places where you can enjoy afternoon tea in a paradise-like location, along with a dessert specialty shop that offers fun presentations (plate desserts typically served after French course meals). These are my top 3 places to take friends when they visit and want to indulge in sweets.

For a drive, or if you’re with a dog, I recommend Ishigama Garden Terrace or Le Milieu, both offering parking and terrace seating. (On weekends, it’s safe to check the parking situation with the shop before heading over.)

If you’re arriving by train, Regaleve, which is close to the station, or Ishigama Garden Terrace, which is accessible by foot from the station, are great options.

In any case, I highly recommend visiting all three!

Parking is free for three hours if you spend over 3,000 yen at the restaurant. Admission fee is 100 yen.

Ishigama Garden Terrace KAMAKURA

A restaurant café located within the grounds of Jomyoji Temple. After parking your car, head into the temple grounds. While strolling and enjoying the view of the dry landscape garden, take a leisurely walk up the steps for about five minutes. You’ll come upon an entrance that looks as if it belongs to a European mansion.

The front garden, where Annabelle hydrangeas greet you, exudes a sense of England with its well-aged benches.

The garden was crafted by a Scottish gardener. After being seated at a terrace table, you’ll be greeted with a view of the beautifully harmonized garden. While waiting for your afternoon tea order, take a stroll through the garden.

The garden, with its mix of wildflowers and vibrant blooms, evokes a sense of Scotland with its harmonious blend. The terrace seating is spacious and comfortable, offering a relaxing experience no matter where you sit.

A three-tiered cake stand is brought to your table.
The staff carefully explains the assortment of sweets and sandwiches. The bottom tier features two types of sandwiches, the middle tier holds scones with clotted cream and jam, and the top tier is adorned with fruits and cheesecake. It’s a traditional style.
Additionally, there’s a separate mango glass dessert, which doesn’t fit on the stand, adding to the generous portion.
The staff mentioned that dogs are allowed at the terrace seating. From the table next to ours, where they had ordered from the lunch menu, delicious aromas wafted over. Having lunch with your dog seems like a wonderful idea.

You can enjoy two cups of tea or coffee, all for 4,500 yen per person. The photo shows portions for two.

Jomyoji Temple also boasts wonderful tea spots. For more details, please refer to “Please enjoy matcha at the bamboo temple in Kamakura.” However, pets need to stay at home for this outing.

Le Milieu Kamakurayama

You can also enjoy afternoon tea at a renowned restaurant known for its spectacular views on Kamakurayama. I heard that parking spaces are limited, so it’s best to visit Kamakurayama during less crowded times. The interior of the restaurant, with its three-dimensional layout, feels like a resort hotel.

Middle-tier boutique. Order here before taking your seat.
Gift corner on the lower level. Like a hotel shop.

The terrace seating where you can dine with your dog offers a panoramic view. The design, utilizing the slope of the land, has carefully considered the scenery.

As you sip on sparkling wine and begin to feel pleasantly relaxed, a voluminous cake stand is brought to your table.

The bottom and middle tiers feature soft baguette ham sandwiches and cakes selected from the cake shop, while the top tier showcases baked goods that can also be purchased as souvenirs from the shop. You can also enjoy two drinks each.

You’re soothed by the landscape below as hawks gracefully glide through the air.

Two people with drinks included for ¥4,600 is quite reasonable. Plus, the freedom to have one refill. Sounds like a great deal!

RegaLez -vous

The entrance with a sky-blue door evokes a sense of France. Inside, you’ll find an array of baked goods such as pastries, bread, and cakes.

RegaLez -vous“, which has earned high praise among the ladies in the neighborhood as “a high-level establishment has arrived in Kamakura!” I’ve bought pastries and bread for takeout before, but this is my first time enjoying dessert inside.

I was seated at a counter where I could peek into the open kitchen upon being escorted in.

The open kitchen exudes cleanliness. It’s delightful to watch the performance of pouring sauce onto plates from behind the counter.
A cake that showcases high-level craftsmanship, evident at first glance.
The handwritten menu adorned with cute decorative borders exudes an artistic sense.

You carefully read the menu, which features hand-drawn illustrations describing the desserts, and choose a chocolate-based dessert. The presentation, where the finishing sauce is poured right in front of you, is not only enjoyable but also the final touch to perfection in taste.

“Profiterole” filled with mascarpone cream and vanilla ice cream inside. Comes with your choice of coffee or fragrant Mariage Frères tea for ¥3,200.
“Baba Passion” features a passion fruit-based sauce with a sophisticated flavor. The exquisite chocolate cream pairs perfectly with it, accompanied by cocoa tuiles and sorbet. This option also includes your choice of coffee or Mariage Frères tea for ¥3,200.

The dessert, with its delicate flavors fused together on one plate, is truly a blissful treat. It’s so delicious, it’s addictive.
And one mustn’t forget about the French breads and pastries, especially the croissants made with French fermented butter and the Kouign-Amann. They are shockingly delicious; I’ll definitely buy some as souvenirs.
Stimulating the taste buds with dessert, followed by an afternoon tea at one of Shonan’s top locations.
You can immerse yourself in an elegant mood and enjoy a high-quality time.

Book designer. I've been living in the Shonan area for over 20 years, having moved from Tokyo. I live by the sea with my family and dog. Hobbies: Looking at visuals in Western magazines, enjoying sweets while working. Things I find beautiful: The pupils of cats, a dog's wet nose, the evening beach.
